It All Started With One Simple Dream

In 1987, while searching for her own wedding dress, our owner, Crystal Gray, left bridal appointments feeling underwhelmed. The customer service, the selection, and the overall experience simply weren’t what she had hoped for during such a meaningful season of life.

Instead of accepting that as the norm, she began dreaming about something different.

What if there was a bridal boutique where every bride felt welcomed, heard, celebrated, and genuinely cared for? A place where finding your wedding dress became one of the happiest memories of your engagement—not just another item to check off your wedding to-do list.

That dream became A Storybook Ending.

A Leap of Faith

With a degree in business management, a passion for serving others, and no experience in the bridal industry, Crystal stepped out in faith to pursue a dream she couldn’t ignore. After months of planning, researching designers, traveling to bridal markets, renovating a storefront, and preparing every detail herself, A Storybook Ending officially opened its doors in November of 1989.

What began as a one-woman bridal shop has grown into one of Eastern Iowa’s premier bridal destinations, welcoming thousands of brides over the past 36+ years. 

Growing With Purpose

Over the years, our boutique has grown, expanded, and evolved, but one thing has never changed: our commitment to creating an unforgettable experience for every bride who walks through our doors.

Together, Crystal and our store manager, Christi, travel to bridal markets around the world to thoughtfully curate collections that reflect today’s bride while maintaining the quality, beauty, and craftsmanship our boutique is known for. Every gown is intentionally selected with our brides in mind. 

More Than a Bridal Boutique

Today, A Storybook Ending is more than a place to find your wedding dress. It’s a place where happy tears are shared, lifelong memories are made, and generations of families gather to celebrate one of life’s most meaningful moments.

We also have expanded our store to include a coffee shop and women’s clothing boutique—all with the purpose of enhancing your experience!
